Miami Color Theory is a photography project by award-winning artist and graphic designer Laura Paresky Gould. The series, shot on an iPhone and posted daily to Instagram, focuses on the colors, lines, and shapes of Miami’s built environment, and encourages the practice of seeing to appreciate the beauty all around us. Her book, SEEING DIFFERENTLY: MIAMI COLOR THEORY (Tra Publishing, 2023) and video series for The Bass, Miami Beach’s contemporary art museum, focus on minimal photography and include engaging lessons on art and perception. Gould discovers hidden delights in even the smallest of details, creating a feeling of joy, and spurring viewers to capture the visual treats in their own surroundings.
Laura Paresky Gould is a graphic designer, animator, photographer, fine artist and entrepreneur based in Miami Beach.
In January 2021, just before Adobe Flash was removed from all major browsers, she recorded a keepsake copy of her vintage portfolio of animations, logo designs and saturated colorful photos captured on film. She decided to start shooting architecture and inanimate objects again, only this time with an iPhone. She posts these images onto her Instagram account @miamicolortheory.
