ABOUT ABOUT

Begin the week at Art Basel with a lunch and Art Talk with Norman, Martin and Me. "Norman, Martin and Me" by NYC artist, Steve Marcus, is a series of artwork inspired by the Great American Novelist, Norman Mailer and his commentary on American Philosopher, Martin Buber's "Tales of the Hasidim". Mailer's writings and reactions appeared in Commentary Journal, published by the American Jewish Committee in the early 60's. It is in these obscure articles that Mailer explores his individual identity, the evolving collective American identity and the soul of the nation. Join Marcus as he shares Norman Mailer's unique perspective on Buber's re-telling of the fabled stories of Hasidim's founders and his unusual and personal path to discovering and illustrating the passages from this rare academic responsa.

Steve Marcus (aka smarcus) has received honors and awards from the American Society of Illustrators; has several works in the permanent collection of the Oakland Museum of California and in private art collections in the United States and abroad. He has collaborated with Allen Ginsberg, Ken Kesey, Timothy Leary, The Miguel Pinero Estate and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. He's created artwork and illustrations for High Times Magazine and the infamous Cannabis Cup, The United Nations, The Source, MTV, XXL Magazine, The Tibetan Freedom concerts, The Source, Conde Nast Publications, Esquire and posters for the world famous Filmore in San Francisco.
