Please join us for a wonderful day of classes and and a stimulating Lunch and Learn with Eric Weintraub, author of the novel, South of Sefarad: The 1492 Jewish Expulsion from Spain. This debut novel tells the tale of a Spanish Jewish Family who goes into exile after the expulsion from Spain 1492, leaving behind their converso daughter to the perils of the Inquisition.

The line-up of classes for JCC-U will include:

9:15 AM – Coffee & Conversation: Kickstart your JCC-U Day with the perfect blend of offee, engaging conversation, and a dash of surprise opics. Join the lively discussions led by the Moderator/ Host, Dr. Miriam Klein Kassenoff.

10:00 am - Choose one

Music History with Alan Mason Each week Allan will introduce you to great moments that shaped the music that we enjoy.

Chair Yoga with Marta Molnar Chair yoga, a gentle form of yoga that’s done while seated or using a chair for balance, makes the practice more accessible.

11:15 am - Choose one

Art History: This is a class for all art lovers. Learn about the great masters and art appreciation with Batia Cohen in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Eric Weintraub - South of Sefarad: The 1492 Jewish Expulsion from Spain

This debut novel tells the tale of a Spanish Jewish Family who goes into exile after the expulsion from Spain 1492, leaving behind their converso daughter to the perils of the Inquisition.

Vidal, a physician and his fam­i­ly joins a car­a­van of 200 Jews jour­ney­ing to start their lives anew across the sea in Fez. On the car­a­van, Vidal strug­gles to bal­ance his physi­cian duties of car­ing for the sick while strug­gling to mend strained rela­tion­ships with his family.

Eric Z. Wein­traub is the author of the nov­el South of Sepharad and the novel­la Dreams of an Amer­i­can Exile. He holds an MFA in Cre­ative Writ­ing from Mount St. Mary’s Uni­ver­si­ty. Born and raised in Los Ange­les, Cal­i­for­nia, he pro­files com­plex med­ical cas­es at the Keck School of Med­i­cine of USC.
